Safety & Risk
BeSocialz brings people together offline. Here is what we do to keep things safe, what we can't do, and what to do if something goes wrong.
Meeting strangers in real life carries risk, and no app can remove it completely. This page explains the risks we know about, what we do about them, and what you should do. Please read it before your first hangout, and before you host one.
Emergencies first
- In India, call 112 for police, ambulance or fire help. It works across the country.
- Women in distress can also call 181 or 1091.
- For online fraud, harassment or blackmail, call the 1930 cyber crime helpline or report at cybercrime.gov.in.
- BeSocialz staff are not at meetups and cannot respond to emergencies. Call emergency services first, then tell us.
What we do
- Live selfie check at sign-up for every account, to confirm a real person is using it.
- House Rules that every member agrees to, with clear rules on harassment, threats, violence and fraud.
- In-app reporting on profiles, posts, messages, hangouts and meetups.
- Removal and bans for members who break the rules, without a refund where the rules were broken.
- Payments through Razorpay, so your card and bank details are never stored by BeSocialz.
- Cooperation with the police and other authorities where the law requires it, or where someone is at serious risk.
What we don't do
- We do not run background checks, criminal-record checks or document-based identity checks on users.
- We are not present at hangouts and do not supervise them.
- Hosts are independent. They are not our employees, and we don't direct how they run their plans.
- We cannot guarantee that any member, host or venue is safe, honest or suitable. A live selfie check does not prove someone's past or intentions.
Risks for guests
- Meeting someone whose profile is not accurate, or who behaves differently in person
- Harassment, unwanted physical contact, threats or pressure to share money, personal details or private information
- Drinking or drug use at a meetup, and what follows
- Theft of phones, wallets or belongings
- Being taken to a private place that was not part of the plan
What to do: meet in a public, busy venue, especially the first time. Tell a friend or family member where you are and when you'll be back. Keep your own transport. Don't share your home address or bank details. Trust your instinct, and leave early if something feels wrong. If a host or guest asks you to pay outside the app, don't pay, and report it.
Risks for hosts
- Guests who behave badly, become aggressive, or refuse to follow the plan
- Venue problems, such as unsafe spaces, property damage or a venue that cancels on the day
- Being asked to take payment outside the app
- Personal safety when you host strangers, especially alone or at night
- Tax and legal duties on any income you earn from hosting
What to do: pick a public venue you know. Keep the plan within the details shown in the app. Tell someone you trust about the plan, and have a way to leave. Remove any guest who breaks the house rules, and report it. Keep records of bookings and payments in the app. If you cancel, follow our Cancellation & Refund Policy.
If something goes wrong at a meetup
- Get to safety. Move to a public place, near people, staff or security.
- Call 112 if anyone is hurt or in danger.
- Tell someone you trust where you are.
- File a police report if a crime has happened. Keep any messages, bookings and payment records.
- Report in the app or email support@besocialz.com with the names or usernames, the place, the time, and what happened. You can also report on the Report button on any profile or event.
How we handle reports
- We acknowledge reports within 24 hours and resolve them within 15 days, as required by the IT Rules, 2021. Reports about content that may be intimate, abusive or threatening may be handled more quickly.
- We may remove content, remove a member from a hangout, suspend an account, or ban it permanently.
- We keep the records we need for safety and legal reasons, and we share information with the police when the law requires it or when someone is at serious risk.
- Misconduct can lead to criminal and civil action under Indian law, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000. See our Terms of Use.
Children and minors
BeSocialz is for adults aged 18 and older. Read our Child Safety Policy for how we protect minors and report child abuse.
BeSocialz can help you find people and plans. It can't promise that every person you meet will be safe. Use your judgement, and call 112 when you need help.
